We are lazy, misinformed Americans

The following text was sent to me in an email. I cut and pasted it here so I could respond to it. The facts presented here are most likely true. I will not deny the intent of the text is, on the face of it, is positive. I disagree with the conclusions presented though and I have to respond. Please read the entire document. Take a moment to let what was said sink in. Then read my opinion that follows.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
original text from an email:

EVERY CITIZEN NEEDS TO READ THIS AND THINK ABOUT WHAT THIS JOURNALIST HAS SCRIPTED IN THIS MESSAGE. READ IT AND THEN REALLY THINK ABOUT OUR CURRENT POLITICAL DEBACLE.

Charley Reese has been a journalist for 49 years.

545 PEOPLE
By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason... They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red ..

If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it's because they want them in IRAQ

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do..

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper.

What you do with this article now that you have read it.......... Is up to you.

This might be funny if it weren't so darned true.
Be sure to read all the way to the end:

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes

Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ---.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.

Put these words
Upon his tomb,
Taxes drove me
to my doom...'

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY? Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
What has happened? Can you spell 'politicians?'
And I still have to 'press 1' for English!?

I hope this goes around THE USA at least 100 times!!! YOU can help it get there!!!
GO AHEAD - - - BE AN AMERICAN!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My opinion:

Yes there are 545 people making our decisions for us. There is a reason. The fathers of our country did not imagine a population of 300,000,000 and the evolution of the media. When the constitution was crafted the average person was no less than weeks away from breaking news and the elected representatives were elected by people who knew them and what they stood for. It was a good system and it worked for many years.

Things have changed. There are more of us but we have immediate access to any information we choose to get. What do we do with this access? We watch untold hours of television all the time bombarded by 30-second messages from advertisers. We spend many hours enraptured by discussions of our favorite sports teams and the latest “reality show” results. We invest much of our work time actually thinking about our fantasy team strategy. We have let the media take charge of our country by letting it numb our minds. Instead of studying the voting records of our elected officials, reading their resumes, looking up their financial reports, and asking important questions we let our opinions and votes be managed by the most prevalent and slickest 30-second political ad. We accept these professionally produced messages when they connect with values inserted into our psyche by other slick, professional ads. We have abdicated the control of our country to the media. The media is controlled by the money. The money is controlled by the businesses and people who believe they have the right to rule the country.

Yes, the 545 people discussed in the text do the actual “work”. They get away with what they do because we’re too lazy to interfere. Too lazy that is until a series of sound bites and slick advertisements rouse the mob mentality in us. We still do not think for ourselves though. We are manipulated by the people in charge. They shouldn’t be in charge. They should be serving our demands. We now have the information to make socially viable decisions. We do not have to be told what to think. We need to take back our government and demand the elected officials at all levels stop being self-serving, power-hungry whores and be the public servants they should be. We (most of us anyway) are intelligent enough to listen to serious, fact-based discussions, and, with open minds, make good decisions. Given facts and unbiased scientific analysis the combined mental power of 300,000,000 people will make this country what it was meant to be. The 545 can do the grunt work. We’ll make the decisions.

Or we can remain lazy, misinformed pawns doing the mob work of the money people.

Please inform this blog site of any and all votes that Our President voted on while spending two years in the Senate. Also, please tell me what part of this government health care plan that he has actually written. He seems to be outsourcing everything. I do know that he travels quite a bit and when he does, he usually pulls a stunt that embarrasses and degrades the USA. He would be wise to remember that he is president of this country and need not kiss any other countries backside, but to me that seems like what he is doing. He does not need to be apologizing for the American people.

When one of the top commanders serving in Afghanistan and I do not recall his name, states that we are going to lose that battle if we do not send more troops, why under God's blue sky does Hillary Clinton state that they are not needed according to intelligence here? You do not second guess people in charge of life and death on the front lines and that is my opinion.

I do not know if you are taking the job you have been offered, but, if you do, I am sure you are going to be taxed like everyone else, so enjoy it!!!

No new taxes says President Obama, but yes, now the news media that has stated that the upper class would share more of the tax burden has dwindled down to the middle class. Everyone is going to have to purchase insurance that is affordable. What is affordable if you do not have a job or a very low paying one? My thoughts on affordable and the governments thoughts are sure to be different. On this statement, I am sure. With the Bauscus plan, citizens without insurance will be fined $3800.00. Excuse me, but if you can not afford health insurance that you like to blog so much about, how are you going to afford the fines? Nothing in this nation makes sense anymore.

This president and congress are alienating our UN supporters and tromping all over our constitution. I am not the brightest star in the sky, but I am not blinded by politicians. They all lie to promote their agendas, but I am waiting to see how long this will go on, before Americans that see what is actually going on, take their nation back from the hands of what I call the actual terroists in this nation. Our own govenrment is destroying us to the point that we do not have to worry about foreign terrorist so much. They never have to attack the US again and we will go under unless I have missed some major information somewhere. Am I worried about the future of this great country? You bet I am, along with millions of other Americans.

You blogged about the political parties destroying our nation. We need a check and balance program, thus the two parties, and I, sometimes, have problems distingusishing between the two parties. They are all in the same league; just some are worse than others.

I have prayed for this president, this congress, and this nation. If things continue to go downhill the next three years like they have the past 9 months, we will not sustain our world power status, or the freedoms that we have now. Only divine intervention can save us now. I have tried to remain objective, but I see nothing good in what is taking place in Washington. Reverend Wright, Acorn, Bill Meyers. etc, are all fully tied to our president and if you think that is a good thing, then you better think again. Even Van Jones resigned because of his communist views. Good grief, when are you going to see the light?

Again, I buried my point too deep inside my malformed text and you missed it.
My ultimate intention of the posting was to go beyond the pasted-in excerpt from the email and dig down to the root cause of the problem. Just like a flat tire is flat because the air spilled out our government consists of 545 people doing wrong more often than right. The tire certainly lost its air but why? Because someone left a nail where it could find a way into a tire. The government does stupid things - Why? Because someone was too lazy to learn who was being put in charge before giving them the reins. We let ourselves be manipulated by a party system that virtually prohibits actual intelligent people from acheiving office.

An intelligent person can analyze situations and data and make up his own mind. Not always agreeing with everyone else of course. The party system prohibits that freedom. It puts the individual's mind under the control of the party leaders and that comes close to the Soviet union's type of communism.
We, as citizens, do not take time or make the effort to force our beliefs onto the system. Instead we sit back and whine when the system abuses us. We should be in charge. We could be in charge. We're too manipulated by the money-driven media to want to take charge. When the American society collapses the government will be blamed. Who is the government?

And so it goes!!!!!!! We finally agree on something, almost. You label yourself as a democrat, so does that mean that if a cat was running for office on the democratic ticket that you would vote for it? I am informed, not by the news media, but by listening to what the candidates say, depending on what crowd they are speaking to. If a candidate keeps chasing his backside and changing course in every speech, then I figure that person is a liar.

The president that we have now, has promised change. Well, it's not for the better. The biggest thing that I see in politicians, no matter who they are, is greed. They spend our tax dollars and then raise our taxes, so they can spend more. These taxes do not include the fact that I also pay city and county taxes and education taxes via the wheel tax here; even though I have already put my child through school.

The whole truth of the matter is that there is no one that I can name that I could put my faith and trust in and actually think they were serving the people of the US instead of their own agendas. None of them are trustworthy and honest, so we keep voting our conscience and praying that we have selected the lesser of two evils. This time I believe the US was wrong, but at least, we got out and voted. I guess that gives us the right to still complain, even if our President does not like us disagreeing with him and his methods. The president and the congress would do well to understand that government is of the people, for the people, and by the people, meaning the voting public. That's the reason that 2 million plus Americans went to Washington. DC. It is about time to stop having politicians shove everything down our throats and think that we should like it.

I am a Democrat just to be non-Republican. It is my belief that the Democrats are less inclined to value money and power over compassion. If we had a truly free system I would be so fiercely Independent that no one could stand me. It is my opinion that the free market, unrestrained capitalism dreamed of by the money behind the Republican party contributed to our recent economic near-collapse and if we do not take steps to prevent the recurrance the next one will destroy the country. If we had the sense to see this as a voting public we would keep just enough control over capitalism to save the country and maybe the climate at the same time.

When do children learn to talk? When did you first talk to your kids? When did you discuss your politics with your children? When did your parents discuss politics with you? Do you see the pattern?

If the cat's opponent was a Republican dog (aka s.o.b.) I'd definitely vote democratic. If I had a choice of a truly independent, intelligent person willing to ignore the party (both parties) line and do what was needed That person would get my vote. (assuning he had a real chance of winning)As long as the two major parties are in control, I have to make a choice from three options. Not vote because neither deserves my vote and just let whatever idiot has the best campaign manager win. Or vote for one of the two idiots. I have to vote for the idiot whose party I believe is slightly less money-and-power focused.
Saying what your audience wants to hear is the mark of a good politician. We have let professional politicians run the country when the only thing any of them are really good at is saying the right thing. The fear of loosing the backing of the party keeps them in line. We need to be sure the people behind the scenes doing the actual work get their jobs because they know what they are doing and not because they worked for the elcetion campaign. The political leadership has as much business running the country as they do running a war. We all remember how politicians got 55,000 young people killed by tying the generals' hands. We are doing it again by being politically afraid to do what needs to be done to eliminate the Taliban. The people in the mountain caves know their greatest ally is the American political system and its fear of looking bad. I know how such a fear cripples a person and I see the same crippling effect on politicians. Where is Douglas MacArthur when we need him.

It was my understanding that we entered Afghanistan due to Osama Bin Laden being the ring leader and master-mind that produced the terrorists that attacked Americans on their own soil on 9/11. Well, armed forces could not dig him out there, so here we go into Iraq. Next place that we will be sending troops will be Iran and even perhaps South Korea due to North Korea being so over-bearing and shooting missiles when they have been ordered not to. What other countries to you think that our troops will be sent to?

When our president dropped the anti-missile defense shield between Russia and Poland, then he aligned himself with the communist leaders. There is nothing to stop the Russians from invading and taking Poland and other surrounding third world countries that sit in the UN and are allies for us. What was his motive for doing this? He has an agenda and I, for one, think that I see it taking shape. If I stated it here, I would only sound radical and people would say that this could never happen in the US. It would only take one country coming into our country with their military and disarming American citizens for us to become another Russia or China. Either country could own us and not a shot fired. We will never be policed by our own military. It will be a foreign one.

I can understand mis-speaking yourself about an issue, but this president has sung so many different tunes that people are skeptical and do not trust him when he speaks. That was the reason for the outrage over him speaking to school children. Parents did not know what this man might say.

You are right about Republicans being big money people and scratching the backs of their fat cat buddies, like Cheney did with Halliburton. That was a major conflict of interest. Please tell me, though, how you can explain to me in very simple terms, exactly how this president has improved any American lives except banks that received bail-out monies and did not have to do an accounting or the bail-out monies sent to 2 of the big 3. We are deeper in debt as a nation than ever before in my lifetime and unemployment numbers continue to rise. Do you know that once you quit drawing un-employment because your time has run out, that you are no longer counted in the unemployed statistics. You just do not count at all is the way I understand that. I figure that the number of the unemployed is a lot higher than being reported.

The cash for clunkers program has been a di8sater for the dealerships who can not get their money. Veterans that could go to school are not receiving the monies promised them for serving in the military. It is total crap that this president has spent the US into the poor house, if you will pardon the term. What does Congress do and this president? They raised their limit on their borrowing. If the bank says that I can only have 5000 dollars and I want 50,000 dollars, do you really think they are going to raise my limit?

I do agree that throughout history, we have done better with a Democratic President and Congress, but this time, they are failing miserably.People just like you and me are the ones paying the fare. There are some Americans in even worse shape. Fed up is a nice way of saying exactly the way more and more Americans are feeling with this administration and it's antics. Never boring, but getting scarier every day.
